Full Description

The Turtlebrace Ankle Brace is a warm-and-form immobilization brace, designed to be molded directly on the client and removed as needed for bathing, range of motion assessment, skin care, or other appropriate activities.

The Turtlebrace Ankle Brace has many uses, including:

‣ Night splinting

‣ Short-term immobilization after injury or surgery

‣ Trialing and evaluating the potential effects of a tuned, solid ankle-foot orthosis before completing an orthotic prescription

The low-temperature thermoplastic core offers precise control during molding, allowing the clinician to stabilize and position the joint easily and quickly. The great flexibility of the components stabilizes the joint more easily and with more precision than a traditional brace or cast.

The Turtlebrace Ankle Brace zippered front provides easy donning and doffing — allowing for a full range of normal daily activities, and increasing the likelihood of wearer/caregiver compliance.

It can be reshaped many times, allowing the fitting clinician to make adjustments for fit, comfort, physical changes to the limb, and to adapt to clinical progress.

Precautions

Do not heat the brace over 108°C (225°F) or you can damage the fabric and/or the zipper.

Let the brace cool slightly after softening, and test the temperature against the back of your hand before placing it on the client. If it's too hot to handle with bare hands, it's too hot to place on the client.

Handle with caution when warmed.

A standard heat gun can easily burn or deform the fabric covering; use the lowest setting (or a hair dryer) to soften the brace in spots for adjustment.

DO NOT store the brace in heated spaces, such as a closed car, or a sunny window sill.

Turtlebrace FAQs

Does insurance cover the Turtlebrace products?

The ankle and wrist brace are L-code verified by PDAC (see product descriptions for L-codes) and may qualify for reimbursement. Every state’s Medicaid program and individual insurance will be different. Always verify payer specific policies or check with your billing team. Typically O&P providers have the most success with reimbursement.

I am a caregiver. Can I mold these for my family member?

Turtlebraces are Class I medical devices which must be custom-formed for the wearer by a qualified clinician. They are not intended to be shaped or formed by caregivers or consumers. Devices will not qualify for a warranty replacement if they were not molded by a qualified clinician. The wearer may experience discomfort or injury from an improperly-molded device.

How do I heat the brace?

You will receive heating and molding instructions with your order.

Dry heat or hot water methods are used to heat the brace. A regular oven or convection oven, hydrocollator, splint bath or other hot water pan are appropriate heating methods.

Do not exceed more than 225 degrees F or 108 degrees Celsius.

DO NOT USE A MICROWAVE. This can damage the brace and will void your warranty.

Do you accept returns?

You can return or exchange an unused/unmolded brace, less shipping charges. Send an email to admin@gaitways.com. Please refer to your order number. If you don’t have the order number, provide a date of purchase and full name to confirm the original order.
